Naturopathic Medical Doctors hold a doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine from an accredited medical school. The four-year post-graduate training is unique in that Naturopathic Medical Doctors study all the conventional medical sciences while also completing extensive academic and clinical education in the use of natural medicines. Medical science coursework includes Cardiology, Neurology, Radiology, Obstetrics, Gynecology, Immunology, Dermatology, Pediatrics, Pharmacology, and more. Natural Science coursework includes but is not limited to Medical Nutrition, Homeopathic Medicine, Botanical Medicine, Physical Medicine, Oriental Medicine, Ayurvedic Medicine, Counseling and more.

Naturopathic Medical Doctors take national and international medical board exams, the Naturopathic Physicians Licensing Exam (NPLEX), and attain a state license where licensing is available.* In licensed states, NMDs (Naturopathic Medical Doctors) serve as primary care physicians with the ability to diagnose and treat medical conditions, perform physical exams, and order laboratory testing. In states which do not currently license Naturopathic Medical Doctors, as is the case in Texas, NMDs (Naturopathic Medical Doctors) may serve as Natural Health Consultants.
