What is TOXICITY?

Toxicity refers to the accumulation of toxins in the body. Overtime, the number of heavy metals and chemicals start to add up, which is what we refer to as bioaccumulation.  In result of bioaccumulation, our bodies become stressed and we can become sick. There have been are almost 90,000 chemicals developed since the chemical revolution. The effects of these chemicals are widespread. Many are known to target major organ systems, some are neurotoxins, and most are known to contribute to autoimmune processes, cardiovascular disease, endocrine disruption and even cancer.  It can be argued that almost every disease process has a basis in toxicity.Today we all have chemicals in our body, infact, no child is born free of them.  In the PBS documentary,Trade Secrets, Bill Moyer's uncovers the hidden truth behind this chemical revolution. As part of the pilot study for the investigation,Moyers had his own blood analyzed. He tested positive for 84 industrial chemicals. Bill Moyers has never even lived near a chemical plant.  We on the other hand live in the petrochemical mecca. There is a three-hundred mile stretch along the gulf coast that houses the largest collection of petrochemical refineries and factories in the world. Therefore, it is not surprising that Houston is ranked in the 100th percentile for most toxic cities, according to  Scorecard.org.In the world we live in today, it is impossible to completely avoid the environmental hazards that surround us. So it is important to become more aware of how we can reduce our toxic exposure. At Sakura Natural Health, we make environmental education a priority.
What is Cleansing?
Practiced for centuries by many cultures around the world, detoxification is about resting, cleaning and nourishing the body from the inside out. By removing and eliminating toxins, then feeding your body with healthy nutrients, detoxifying can help protect you from disease and renew your ability to maintain optimum health.Detoxification means cleaning the tissues and fluids of the body. It does this mainly by removing impurities from the blood in the liver, where toxins are processed for elimination. The body also eliminates toxins through the kidneys, intestines, lungs, lymph and skin. However, when this system is compromised, impurities aren't properly filtered and every cell in the body is adversely affected. We may recommend detoxing for symptoms such as unexplained fatigue, sluggish elimination, irritated skin, allergies or low-grade infections; bags under the eyes; a distended stomach even if the rest of your body is thin; menstrual difficulties; or mental confusion; exposure to chemicals including solvents and pesticides.
